We Survived!

Today was the big day.  I officially have a preschooler AND a 1st grader.

They were both pretty nervous, but managed to smile for the camera.

Pretty cool backpacks, don't you think?

Showing off the new lunchbox...

This is seriously the look he had when we left (plus, maybe, there were a few tears).
He was much more smiley when I picked him up and I think he's willing to go back tomorrow. :)

Alaina's first day of first grade went great--her exact words, "First grade is so great!"
Currently, she can hardly keep her eyes open she's so worn out, but she likes her teacher and she made a new friend--so it seems like a success to me!

At the Beach

To celebrate the end of Summer (and by end, I mean school starting--not that it won't be hot for another two months) we decided to spend a weekend at the beach.

We built sandcastles...

played beach ball soccer...

and splashed in the waves!

Rowen's Practice Day

Rowen is four and so Rowen is headed to preschool.  However, before we completely shake up his little routine, he got to have a practice day.  I thought this was a great idea.  When Alaina had her practice day of preschool, she came home ready to go back.  That's not really what happened for Rowen.  His comments:  "I hope there won't be a lot of kids there when school starts."  There will be.
"I hope I don't have to talk to anybody."  He will.
"I hope they don't serve anymore graham crackers for snack."  They will.
I'm hoping he'll get over it.

Here is his "Before Practice Day" picture.

I guess it went okay.   He told me he only cried two times...but as the story went on, he changed it to three.  So I'm not really sure.  The teacher said he did fine.  I'm just going to go with that.

Here is his "After Practice Day" picture.

He was very proud of his nametag and insisted on wearing it the rest of the day.

Since that day, he has shared with me some things he really liked about school--but his final say on the whole matter..."I think I'll go next year".  Too bad, baby, it IS next year!
